You Can Kill My Children, But Don't You Dare Touch My Guns.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” – Second Amendment to the Constitution.

1787 was when that was written. A group of men who had struggled to rip free a country from the grips of another. They did so on the backs of militia’s, being that they did not have a standing army. The right to own guns is so ingrained in the minds of the people of this country that we willingly let children die.

That may seem harsh. Of course, no one wants children to die. But what other conclusions can you come to when a deranged individual shoots 19 children with a legally obtained firearm. We could have prevented this. Easily. We chose not to. We chose to let those children die. Make no mistake. It wasn’t even a hard choice.

“The problem is these people need a good old fashion butt woopin.” – Countless facebook users.

Could you imagine if a house was on fire and the fire department brought in a flamethrower to solve it? Of course not, that’s ridiculous. And yet our response to tragedy is to arm everyone. More good guys with guns. More guns. Never stop adding guns. You know gun violence is on the rise right? But guns do not kill people. No, they’re harmless. If I aimed one at you and pulled the trigger, they wouldn’t say the gun killed you, they would say I did. But I can guarantee that they would say the murder weapon was a gun. But guns don’t kill people. Then we should return them. Isn’t that what they’re for? Are they not tools of death? Their sole purpose is to kill. If they didn’t, well you would be disappointed wouldn’t you.

We have more guns per capita, more gun violence per capita and less gun laws than any other country on this planet. But guns do not kill people. People kill people. Right? With guns… But this right shall not be infringed upon. Its our right. Our right to own guns. Well, things do change you know. It used to be legal to own slaves. Women didn’t used to have the right to vote. So many things didn’t used to exist. In 1787 they didn’t have almost 300 mass shootings a year. They didn’t have AR-15’s, they didn’t have clairvoyance.

Stop treating the founding fathers as some deity who wrote the last thing we will ever need. They wrote that law because the revolution would not have been won without militia’s. They didn’t write that law so you would have the means to overthrow your government as many of you think. They wrote it because they needed soldiers, nothing more.

In 1996 Australia had its worst mass shooting. They banned automatic rifles, instituted a buy back program and created a gun registry. To this day they have only had one other shooting. Same year in the UK, worst mass shooting they had ever seen. They instituted gun laws, gun violence dropped by thirty percent. Do not tell me that gun control doesn’t work. It doesn’t have to be like this. We don’t have to be afraid to send our children to school. We don’t have to watch them die on national TV. We choose this. Every time we do nothing, we choose to let them die.

The Great Divide

I do not need to tell you that America is divided. Pick a topic and go ask the nearest person and ask their view on it. Odds are its vastly different than your own. To quote Donald Glover, “This is America”. A gross amalgamation of viewpoints that struggles to find oxygen. We were weak from the start. How do you quantify America? How do you even begin to bring together people who are just so vastly different on every solitary level? I would love to say that I have the answer to those questions, but I don’t. No one does.      The fact is that “facts” are relative now. I do miss the days when wrong was just plain wrong. Now there is different levels of wrong. There is my wrong. My “facts” that people who do not see eye to eye with me will swear is false. Then there are your “facts”. Which I will swear are false. Who’s to say who is right? Science and evidence seem like a good start but so many just ignore it. This is the world we live in now.   ...

The Art of the Draw

There are those of us in this country that want true change. A break in the system. Hell, an entirely new system. It was this thinking that elected President Obama, arguably one of the best Presidents our country has ever had. It also gave us Donald Trump. The worst President by a wide margin. Anytime Americans see change on the ballot, they go for it. We can all agree that we are tired of politics, tired of the games and tired of the political roadblocks by each side of the isle.             The thing is, there is one thing that is keeping true change from happening and most Americans don’t even realize it’s a thing. I’m talking about Gerrymandering. The way we shape congressional districts is so skewed to one side that if you are not a Republican, it is next to impossible to win elections. Now I know that the other side is guilty of it too. But like most things, ...
